Answer:

With that phrase, Grandpa Jim mean that prudent or wise people are very careful in their dealing with others. In whatever they say or do, such people think twice before doing something. They won’t jump into anything which endangers their safety. He tryes to prevent his granddaughter not to be a fool, since foolish people are hasty in their action. They won’t think much of the consequences of their actions. Such people are led by impulses than their thoughts. They don’t realize the dangers that await them when they take up risky enterprise. Consequently, they fail in most of the ventures.

Scary stories can help teach chilhood life lessons. Since a long time ago, scary stories were used as cautionary tales to help children become aware of dangerous people, situations to avoid, or places to bypass. Scary stories were often passed along through the oral tradition to reinforce a moral lesson, so like folktales they served a purpose beyond pure entertainment.

Scary stories, like dangerous circumstances, trigger an emotional response in the amygdala that releases adrenaline, a chemical that stimulates people to fight or flee. In a safe surrounding, like the classroom or at home in bed, children can enjoy reading scary stories and then experience the anxiety that is stimulated by dangerous, life threatening circumstances or the thrill of escaping from a terrifying situation without the risks of serious injury or death.

When Grandpa Jim says, "only fools rush in where angels fear to tread," he means that you should be careful and think twice before putting yourself in a scary situation. Scary stories teach us that it is okay to be scared sometimes, because if we were never afraid, we would put ourselves in danger without thinking.
