Mitosis produces diploid cells and diploid cells are cells that have the same number of chromosomes as the parent cell. Diploid cells have two complete sets of chromosomes. For example in humans, somatic cells with 46 chromosomes undergo mitosis to produce two daughter cells each with 46 chromosomes.
