The earliest known table forks came to Ancient Egypt, around 2400-1900BC, but many historians believe that they were already used in China .

The forks then are the most recent addition to the cutlery. Although some instruments technically were present since begginigs of civilization. From there on they were used mainly for cooking and serving food to the table

One of the earliest recorded evidence of use of forks in classical history located in Venice is from an 11th century story of the wedding of Byzantine royality. The eating instruments are believed to be made of gold.
