Nikita Khrushchev impacted the relations with the U.S through the establishment of a policy of peaceful co-existence. This led to the signing of the Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty. He visited the U.S in 1959 with an intention to build the U.S-Soviet relationship. He was the first Soviet leader to visit the U.S.

Mikhail Gorbachev on the other impacted the relations with U.S through his modernisation of the Soviet Union which they all cooperated with and it finally led to the end of the cold war.
