The following lines from “Antigone” by Sophocles show Creon’s
deep reverence for authority figures.
These lines state that the law must be obeyed by everyone,
small or great, just or unjust – everyone must be equal in eyes of law to
achieve peace. This is best shown in Creon’s judgment to condone Antigone for
her crimes, even though she was the fiancée of his son, Haemon.
