The asthenosphere produces a buoyant force on the crust that pushes it upward. The crust stops rising when the buoyant force and gravitational force are balanced. This is when isostatic equilibrium is reached.

Relation between buoyancy, isostatic equilibrium, and epeirogenic processes

Buoyant force or buoyancy, is the force exerted in an object which is fully or partially occupied in a fluid. Isostatic equilibrium is the gravitational equilibrium between earth's crust and underlying mantle. while epeirogenic process is the depression of land having long wavelengths.

Both epeirogenic process and isostatic equilibrium uses the principle of buoyancy. The crust of the Earth or the lithosphere floats over underlying mantle at an elevation depending upon its density and thickness.

The land is heating up faster, and also reaches higher temperatures than the water, but it also cools down much quicker, and reaches much lower temperatures than the water.

How might global warming impact terrestrial biomes? how might global warming impact terrestrial biomes? increased boreal forest
sleet_krkn [62]
Global warming impacts terrestrial biomes since it brings about decreased precipitation and longer winter seasons. Global warming refers to the increase in temperature of the Earth's atmosphere. This is brought about by release of greenhouse gases (e.g. carbon dioxide, methane) in the air which trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere. As a result, there is increased variability of weather and climate patterns.
