↪  There were horrible, desolate conditions after the second world war.

↪  Many treaties had been signed with repayments that had to be met

↪  European countries all had to cooperate with this and there was very high inflation in prices (food and goods)

↪  Also, after the war, land was damaged and homes were destroyed. People had little/no money and had to struggle to survive
