Answer:

Explanation:

An antimicrobial agent is a natural or synthetic chemical that kills or inhibits the growth of microorganisms. Bacteria have a mechanism of transferring genomic material called horizontal gene transfer, the movement of genes between cells that are not direct descendants of one another. Horizontal gene transfer allows cells to quickly acquire new characteristics and drives metabolic diversity. One of the characteristics usually acquired is the resistance to antibiotics.

Three mechanisms of genetic exchange are known in prokaryotes:

(1) transformation, in which free DNA released from one cell is taken up by another; (2) transduction, in which DNA transfer is mediated by a virus; and (3) conjugation, in which DNA transfer requires cell-to-cell contact and a conjugative plasmid in the donor cell.

Examples of genes transferred by transducing bacteriophages include multiple antibiotic resistance genes among strains of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, Shiga-like toxin genes in Escherichia coli, virulence factors in Vibrio cholerae, and genes encoding photosynthetic proteins in cyanobacteria.

Conjugative plasmids use a mechanism to transfer copies of themselves and the genes they encode, such as those for antibiotic resistance, to new host cells.

Ribonucleic acid (rna) and additional deoxyribonucleic acid (dna) surrounds genes. in a process called methylation, they enhance, silence, or alter genetic instructions.

What is DNA methylation?

 • Adding methyl groups to the DNA molecule is a biological process known as DNA methylation. Methylation has the ability to change a DNA region's activity without changing the sequence.
 • When DNA methylation takes place at a gene promoter, it frequently decreases gene transcription.
 • DNA methylation plays an important role in a number of critical processes in mammals, including aging, cancer, X-chromosome inactivation, genomic imprinting, and transposable element repression.
 • The majority of eukaryotic genomes contain DNA methylation, a dynamic epigenetic alteration. It is well recognized to cause a high rate of CpG to TpG mutations.
 • However, nothing is known about the connection between the rate of germline mutation and the dynamics of methylation during germline development.

2. The vasa recta is a specialized capillary that branches from the ___________ arteriole. The blood flow in the vasa recta runs
lorasvet [3.4K]

Vasa recta

Explanation:

The vasa recta is a specialized capillary that branches from the efferent arteriole; The blood flow in the vasa recta runs parallel, but in the opposite direction to the flow of tubular filtrate within the nephron loop

 • The vasa recta capillaries are long, hairpin-shaped blood vessels that run parallel to the loops of Henle
 • The hairpin turns slow the rate of blood flow, which helps maintain the osmotic gradient required for water reabsorption
 • Absorbed water is returned to the circulatory system via the vasa recta, which surrounds the tips of the loops of Henle
 • Because the blood flow through these capillaries is very slow, any solutes that are reabsorbed into the bloodstream have time to diffuse back into the interstitial fluid, which maintains the solute concentration gradient in the medulla; this passive process is known as counter-current exchange

All of the following are TRUE regarding the fight-or-flight reaction, EXCEPTA.it is a relatively new human adaptation.B.it enabl
Assoli18 [71]

Answer: A.it is a relatively new human adaptation.

Explanation:

Fight or flight response is a response shown by a human or animal body towards acute stress. It is a physiological reaction that occurs in response to the perceived attack, survival threat and attack. The animals or humans react to threats by the hormonal secretion from sympathetic nervous system. This prepared animals for fighting. The hormonal secretions like catecholamines, epinephrine and nonepinephrine helps in generation of response. Neurotransmitters dopamine, estrogen, testosteron e and cortisol affects how organisms react to the stress.

Fight-or-flight reaction is not a relatively new human adaptation but it is evolved as a survival mechanism which was also present in primitive human beings and mammals and helped them to react in the life-threatening situations.
