Book 5 is where we meet Odysseus for the first time. From books 1-4 he has only been spoken of by other people. The picture we have gained of him so far has portrayed him has a powerful, courageous and intelligent man. However the introduction of the character gives a very different view of Odysseus. Before we meet Odysseus he is spoken of very highly by many of the characters. His son Telemachus believes his father is a strong and heroic man. His wife Penelope describes Odysseus as a fair and honourable king. Mentor, Nestor and Menelaus also speak of how fearless and powerful Odysseus was, so we are given and very impressive image of Odysseus’ character. However, when we eventually meet Odysseus we are shown a very different and quite disappointing character. One who is weak and fearful. Odysseus does not live up to the expectations given to him by his family and friends.

Answer:

See below

Explanation:

In book 5, the reader meets Odysseus for the first time. Before this, he has only been mentioned by other characters. Based on what we have heard, we expect him to be an intelligent, courageous, and powerful man. Telemachus describes him as strong and heroic. Penelope thinks that he is an honorable and fair king. Other characters also praise Odysseus. We assume that he is a great man. However, the Odysseus we meet in book 5 is not anything like that. he is weak and fearful and not like he had been described by Telemachus, Athena, and many other characters.

Is He's a pig a metaphor
gavmur [86]
Yes. It's a metaphor because the writer is not implying that the boy is actually a pig; his actions represent a pig. And thus, it is a metaphorical phrase, nonetheless an actual description!
