This mountain is a great barrier that extends for 750 miles and its tops exceed 4500 meters. It is located <u>between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. </u>

It has two mountain ranges: the Great Caucasus, which is the largest mountain range and extends for 1200 km, and the Lesser Caucasus which is 600 km long.

This great mountain range was <u>created by the clash between the Arab plate and the Eurasian plate</u> approximately 28 million years ago. Due to the constant movement of plates,<u> it is a region prone to continuous strong earthquakes</u> although it does not have volcanic activity despite the existence of some stratovolcanoes.
