What were the effect of sugar plantations on the peopling of America

History
1 answer:
Daniel [21]3 years ago

Slavery and sugar cane production are very much related in America's peopling history.

English planters first started planting sugar cane in Barbados in the 1640's, using both enslaved people from Africa as well as prisioners from the British Isles. Hundreds of thousands of enslaved man were brought from Africa to the Caribbean and to America so that the Europeans could have sugar and rum, both made from sugar cane.

Slaves worked in extremely harsh conditions and they were recruited at a very early age. As a result, white men who owned plantations were aware of the fact that under these working conditions, the enslaved people would die young. Therefore, each year a planter bought newly imported slaves from Africa to replace those who had died.

In sum, sugar cane production killed hundreds of thousands of slaves not only African ones, but also the American children born of enslaved mothers.

According to Chapter 11, what action does Platt take that is motivated by gratitude?(Twelve years a slave)
VikaD [51]

Answer:

He cleanse the garden.

Explanation:

"Twelve Years A Slave" by Solomon Northup is a biographical account of his life, how he became a slave after being captured, despite being a free man. The biography recollects the life of a slave and how hard it was for them to survive during the pre-Civil War times in the South.

Chapter 11 focuses on the recovery of Platt, the author Solomon Northup, who had to run away after he almost killed his master Tibeats, but in self-defense. He came to the home of his first master, William Ford, where he was taken care of. And in response to the gratitude shown to him by the Fords, Platt tends to his mistress's garden, <em>"... cleaning the walks, weeding the flower beds, and pulling up the rank grass beneath the jessamine vines" </em>for three days while recovering.

Thus, the correct answer is the first option.
