In biology, translation refers to a process that occurs in cells as proteins are synthesized, translation occurs after transcription and implies the de-codification of messenger RNA that contains genetic information to a polypeptide (chain of amino acids). This process occurs as codons in mRNA attach to anticodons, the first codon in this process is an AUG codon that is attached to Methionine amino acid. This occurs in most cells including prokaryotes and eukaryotes although and just in very rare cases the translation begins with a different codon. Thus, the codon that is most often recognized as the start codon for translation is AUG.
