Magna Carta is a cornerstone of the individual liberties that we enjoy, and it presents an ongoing challenge to arbitrary rule. But over time, while not envisaged at the time of its drafting, Magna Carta has for many been seen not only as a foundation of liberty, but also one of democracy. And this broader notion of the wider significance of Magna Carta makes it especially relevant today. It is perhaps easiest to think of Magna Carta in two ways: first, as a document of historical and legal significance; and secondly, as a principle underlying how we live, through equality under the rule of law and through accountability. Magna Carta matters both for what it said in 1215 and, perhaps more significantly now, for what it has come to symbolise.

Magna Carta as a source of liberty

The continuing importance of Magna Carta as a source of liberty is well established. One of the key provisions in the 1215 Charter was that imprisonment should not occur without due legal process. This also established the idea of trial by jury. Clause 39 of the 1215 Charter states that: ‘No free man shall be arrested or imprisoned … or exiled or in any way ruined … except by lawful judgment of his peers or by the law of the land.’ This effectively established the principle of the rule of law, protecting individuals from arbitrary punishment. Of course, that’s not to say all men were therefore free — the feudal system of the time saw to that. But, as with many aspects of Magna Carta, it’s what this principle subsequently helped inspire that makes the Great Charter still relevant today.

Gnom [1K]

Legislative Branch:

The Executive branch is able to influence the legislative branch through its office of legislative affairs who lobbies in favor of the President's preferred legislative agenda. It is also able to influence the Legislative branch through vetoes and threats of vetoes.

Judicial Branch:

The Executive branch is able to influence the Judicial Branch through the process of nominating judges to the branch. This usually happens through attrition, that is, when Judges retire or die. A President can then fill a spot with someone who reflects the President's judicial ideology.

How did Presidential addresses and Supreme Court rulings begin to change the lives of the American people beginning in the mid-2
Bingel [31]
In the early 20th cent., the court appeared to be highly conservative in its views. It showed in general a rigid adherence to stare decisis (the rule that precedents are to be followed), a tendency to prevent the states from adopting laws that restricted business in its employment practices and other activities, and little disposition to restrain the states from restricting civil liberties, as in the Plessy v. Ferguson case (1896), which upheld the right of states to enforce segregationist Jim Crow legislation in many Southern states. In the Insular Cases (1901), arising out of questions concerning the status of peoples in the territories acquired as a result of the Spanish American War, the court asserted that the civil rights guaranteed by the Constitution did not automatically apply to the people of an annexed territory, i.e., the Constitution did not follow the flag.

After going through the documents, do you believe it is the job of the Federal Government to help Americans during an
PtichkaEL [24]

Answer:

In my opinion, after examining the documents, I believe that it is the governments job to help American citizen during an economic crisis. The reason so is because when you look at how we got out of economic recessions and depressions it was by the government. FDR implemented government programs like social security and helped to pull America out of the great depression. If it wasn't for a government entity we might have never fully recovered and not have had the great boom of the 50s.
