The response of Chief Joseph was the following: "I am tired; my heart is sick and sad. From where the Sun now stands I will fight no more forever."

Chief Joseph (1840-1904) expressed those words in 1877 as the leader of the Nez Përce Native American Indian tribe in Oregon. He had fought the US troops because the Indians did not want to leave their lands. He had been forced to move to a reservation. Of course, he said no, had many conflicts with the US government and finally he decided to move his people to Canada.
