New Mexico Supreme Court

The Supreme Court consists of five Justices and is located in Santa Fe. This is the court of last resort and has superintending control over all inferior courts and attorneys licensed in the state. This court has mandatory jurisdiction over criminal matters in which the sentence imposed is life in prison; appeals from the Public Regulation Commission; appeals from the granting of writs of habeas corpus; appeals in actions challenging nominations; and removal of public officials.

New Mexico Court of Appeals

Ten judges preside, sitting in panels of three. The court has offices in Santa Fe and Albuquerque. This court has mandatory jurisdiction in civil, non-capital criminal, and juvenile cases; discretionary jurisdiction in interlocutory decision cases and administrative agency appeals.

New Mexico District Courts

There are thirteen different districts. These are courts of general jurisdiction which hold jury trials. This court will hear these types of cases: Tort, contract, real property rights, estate; exclusive domestic relations; mental health; appeals from administrative agencies and lower courts; miscellaneous civil jurisdiction; misdemeanor; exclusive criminal appeals jurisdiction; exclusive juvenile jurisdiction.

Magistrate Court

These are court of limited jurisdiction who also do jury trials. This court will hear these types of cases: Tort, contract, landlord/tenant rights ($0 - $10,000); felony preliminary hearings; misdemeanor; DWI/DUI and other traffic violations.

Municipal Court

These are courts of limited jurisdiction that do not perform jury trials. This court will hear these types of cases: Petty misdemeanors, DWI/DUI, traffic violations and other municipal ordinance violations.

Probate Court (At County Level)

These are courts of limited jurisdiction that do not perform jury trials. This court will hear these types of cases: Informal probate; estate (hears uncontested cases). Contested cases go to district court.

3. Name two changes to the Ohio Constitution that were implemented in the Convention of 1912.

Before the Convention of 1912, Ohioans believed that their Constitution was highly outdated, did not conform to the national standards set by the U.S Constitution and did not respond to the needs of the state in an era when migration was increasing, industrialization was changing the face of the state and urbanization was almost exploding. They wanted a more efficient and less corrupt state government and for this they needed ammendments to their Constitution. In 1912, a meeting began and in the end Ohioans decided not to change the Constitution but to ammend it. They established 41 potential ammendments. Among the changes that were instituted, two stand thus: the first, the legal process now reflected the rights established by the Bill of Rights and that were granted to the accused and the second, the state was given the power to regulate factories and establish the framework under which industries were to word. For example, establishing the 8-hour a day limit for public workers.

2. These changes in the Constitution allowed the state government to act more efficiently and also avoid the corruption that was present before. They allowed the government the power to regulate certain aspects like the labor market and the workforce. It also alligned the Ohio state with the rest of states in the Union.

3. After the Convention, many of the reforms were not accepted, including the acceptance of rights for women and African Americans. But Ohio became one of the first states and most efficient in regulating working conditions for their citizens.

The individual that has inspired me the most would have to be Woodrow wilson. He was the 28th president ,who was also the governor of New Jersey, and the president of princton university before he began his presidency. At one point he even worked as a lawyer in Atlanta, Georgia. Woodrow's re-election campaign was founded because of the fact that he kept the U.S out of WWI. He was known best for coming up with the League of Nations besides the fact that woodrows country refused to be part of it. He married twice his second wife Edith Galt was a desendent of Pocohantas.

Woodrow's biggest accomplishments were for establishing the FRS (Federal Reserve System) and winning the Nobel Peace prize. He won the Nobel Peace prize for his contribution to the international organization League of Natoions. After a policy of nuetrality at the outbreak of WWI, Woodrow led America into the war in order to and I quote " Make the world safe of democracy." Just like Roosevelt before him, Woodrow regarded himself as the personal representative of the people. Woodrow helped the environment by leading a Democratic Congress to pass major legislation that included the FTC (Federal Trade Commission), the Clayton Antitrust Act, the Federal Farm Loan Act, and the FRS (Federal Reseve System). Woodrow oversaw creation of the National Park Service in the year of 1916, Which has been considered one of the great treasures of the nation.

Woodrow's administration had quickly and efficiently kickstarted the war by a mobilization once the united states joined WWI in April of 1917. First of all, Woodrow's established a number of governmental agencies designed to encourage and support Private-sector businesses in the war effort. He ultimatly tried to keep teh U.S out of the war but declared war on Germany in the year of 1917. Woodrow's main goal was to end the war and to bring out lasting peace for the world.
