Which best describes a development that improved railroad safety? A. Railroads adopted standard time to coordinate schedules. B.
xxTIMURxx [149]

The correct answer is option D. "Companies replaced hand-operated brakes with air brakes on trains". The development of air brakes on trains was a significant improvement of railroad safety. Air brakes function much more faster than hand-operated brakes, because hand-operated brakes required that the brakemen turned the brakes in one car and jump to the next to set the brakes on, and so on.

Describe two ways in which plebeians gained more political power after the revolts of 494<br> b.c.e.
Sedaia [141]
1. Special tribunes would represent the plebeians.
2. The Plebeian Council could pass laws that applied to plebeians.

"Tribunis Plebis" was the Latin term for "Tribune of the people" (the plebs).
"Concilium Plebis" was the Latin name for the Plebeian Council or assembly.

There had been assemblies of the plebeians before 494,  but after that date the assembly's actions, under the authority of the tribune of the people, carried more official authority.  The creation of the office of tribune, to represent the people and offset the power of the consul, occurred after major conflict between the plebeians and the ruling class (the patricians) in 495-494.
