How does primary succession occur?

Biology

Answer:

Primary succession occurs in areas without any soil where basically nothing is there. After an event such as a volcanic eruption, pioneer species such as lichens and mosses are able to colonize the land since they can grow without soil and are primitive. Lichens can break down rock to form soil and they can add small amounts of organic matter to the rocks when they decompose to make even more soil. Simple plants like ferns can then grow in the created soil. After these simple plants die, more organic material is added to the soil and the soil thickens, allowing grasses, wildflowers, and other plants to begin to take over. Next, after these plants die, enough nutrients are added to the soil for trees and shrubs to survive. Finally, insects, small birds, and mammals begin to move into the area and form a community, so what was once bare rock can now support a variety of life.

true or false? Cytokinesis is the division of the cytoplasm, whereas mitosis is the division of the nucleus.
zavuch27 [327]

Answer:True

Explanation:

Mitosis is just a part of a cell cycle. Mitotic M phase include both mitosis and cytokinesis.

In the cell cycle Mitotic cell division alternate with Interphase a growth phase. In the mitotic phase, mitosis divides the cell nucleus and distribute it's chromosomes to the daughter nuclei, cytokinesis divides the cytoplasm, producing two daughter cells.

During mitosis in the telophase stage of mitosis the division of one nucleus into two genetically identical nuclei, is completed.

In Cytokinesis, the division of the cytoplasm is usually well under way by the late telophase, so the two daughter cells appear shortly after the end of mitosis

How does meiosis play a role in the evolution of a species
Vesnalui [34]

Answer:

The correct answer is - option B. it increases the amount of genetic variation in the species.

Explanation:

Meiosis is a type of cell division that takes place in sex cells or reproductive cells. There is crossing over takes place which is a process where the genetic exchange of chromosomes occurs between non-sister chromatids of homologous chromosomes.

The crossing over leads to the new genetic combinations of genetic material which result in the genetic variation in species. This variation plays a role in the natural selection and evolution of species.
