  • economic unrest: an uneasiness due to the lack of stability in the financial market. Economic is highly volatile and agents do not feel safe in their market movements. Rates which depend on risk factors, such as interest rates and in turn the inflation rate rise, increasing the inestability situation even more.
  • Stock Market crash of 1929: financial panic which saw the market lose so much power that many lost their fortunes in days. The plunge of Wall Street stocks was one of the most famous manifestations that set the beginning of the Great Depression and the recession years.

In order to have real power without having to rely on other political forces, it is not only neccesary to get the larger number of votes, but to gain majority in the chambers in order to conduct effective policy implementation.  
  • landslide defeat: losing by a sizable margin in an election. It is a phrase used in an election scenario when the results reflect a very clear winner/loser. Also the phrase 'landslide victory' is often used.
  • incumbent: a person who currently holds an office. After an election, it is the person who in the end manages to enter in an office.
  • American Communist Party : left-wing protest party that was formed in 1919. It was formed after the Socialist Party of America splitted. It was connected to the labor movement at a global level and to communist parties all over the world.
