My generalization based on the four statements mentioned in the problem was that Ghost Town is a general term used to address a remote and known place. Once John Steele went to this kind of place, he'll be known for some reason and he tried very just to be part and belong to this kind of place.
In order to gain respect of the people you have to be cruel enough to where they respect you but nice enough to where they do not hate you. If you were cruel everyone would hate you and you would probably get overthrown.
