A certain segment of DNA can be used as a molecular clock. Its rate of mutation is one mutation per 15 million years. Examine th

e DNA segments from two different species: Species A: GTTGAGCTAGTATGGACC Species B: GATAAGCTAGTAAGGTCA Using this example, explain how this information can be used to determine how long ago these two species shared a common ancestor. Be sure to answer this question in paragraph form using complete sentences.

We can use these two DNA segments to roughly estimate how many years ago the species shared a common ancestor. First, we can count the number of differences separating segment a from segment b. Because Species B has 5 differences when compared to Species A, we see that as 5 different mutations that happened, or errors when copying the DNA. If there was one mutations per 15 million years, this means these two species shared a common ancestor around 75 million years ago. Hope I helped!

Fish lay a large number of eggs, few of which are fertilized and very few of which hatch into young ones. Still fewer live to ma
vazorg [7]
The answer would be survival of the fittest.

This metaphor, "<em>survival of the fittest</em>," was used by Herbert Spencer to explain <em>natural selection. </em>It is sometimes also referred to as the survival for existence. This phrase came from the Dawinian theory of evolution where he explains that all species are capable of producing many offsprings. However, the survival of those offsprings depends on their ability to adapt to the risks and opportunities of the external environment.
<em>
</em>This relates to your scenario in the sense that fish lay a lot of eggs in the beginning but not all of them would live to achieve maturity. This is because even as eggs, they have many predators and are exposed to other elements. The threat pushes on even if they are able to hatch and grow up.

Deffense [45]
Geologists call individual layers of sedimentary rocks beds, whereas everal of them together are called strata.
Sedimentary rocks are formed when sediment is deposited out of air, ice, wind, gravity, or water flows carrying the particles in suspension. The sediment is often formed when weathering and erosion break down a rock into loose material in a source area. Strata are layers of rocks that are laid down as sediment, often in the sea, and are slowly changed by pressure, heat and chemical actions into rocks.
