The World in Spatial Terms Where were authoritarian governments
located?
IrinaK [193]

The authoritarian governments of the world in 20th century have usually existed in Africa and West Europe, along with South America

Explanation:

There was a visible rise in authoritarian sentiment across world din the time of the twentieth century leading to many nations hoping that form of the government or being simply taken over by the dictators and it happened all over the world

Most of the nations that are now democracy had been monarchies for some time before they turned back and it has been the same story across the world and specially in newer countries like in Africa and South America

It has also happened in the old, decolonized world in the middle east and with the rise of fascism in Europe.

fenix001 [56]

The correct answer is B) encouraging the United States to avoid political entanglements in Europe.

Unfortunately, you forgot to include the excerpt, Without it, we had to do some deep research to find information about it.

We found that the excerpt is referring to the famous "Quarantine Speech" delivered by United States President, Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The ideas expressed in the excerpt differed from the prevailing United States approach to foreign policy issues primarily in that Roosevelt was encouraging the United States to avoid political entanglements in Europe.

We are talking about the conflictive and turmoil years previous the beginning of World War II. The situation in Europe was complicated and tensions grew as Adolph Hitler and the Nazi party increased the tome of its foreign policy and aspirations.

On October 5, 1937, United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered the Quarantine Speech in the city of Chicago, Illinois. He had decided to maintain the foreign policy of neutrality before the tensions in Europe.

In the speech, he talked about some lawless nations that did not want to maintain peace in the region. He never mentioned any names but it was obvious he was talking about Germany, Italy, and Japan.

3. Why was life especially difficult for the first slaves?
allochka39001 [22]

Answer:

The vast majority of labor was unpaid. The only enslaved person at Monticello who received something approximating a wage was George Granger, Sr., who was paid $65 a year (about half the wage of a white overseer) when he served as Monticello overseer.Life expectancy was short, on many plantations only 7-9 years.Industrial slaves worked twelve hours per day, six days per week. The only breaks they received were for a short lunch during the day, and Sunday or the occasional holiday during the week.Fearing that black literacy would prove a threat to the slave system -- which relied on slaves' dependence on masters -- whites in many colonies instituted laws forbidding slaves to learn to read or write and making it a crime for others to teach them. However, the health of plantation slaves was far worse than that of whites. Unsanitary conditions, inadequate nutrition and unrelenting hard labor made slaves highly susceptible to disease. Illnesses were generally not treated adequately, and slaves were often forced to work even when sick.Slaves were punished by whipping, shackling, beating, mutilation, branding, and/or imprisonment. Punishment was most often meted out in response to disobedience or perceived infractions, but masters or overseers sometimes abused slaves to assert dominance.

How had the political climate changed in the south during world war ii in the early cold war years?
Vlad [161]
Despite being freed from slavery about 80 years before the end of World War II, African-Americans were still treated - often at best - as second class citizens in the southern states and discrimination was common in varying forms almost everywhere in the south (and, to a measure, in the northern states as well). While social change for African-Americans and other minorities came along rather slowly, it did eventually come (at least in part). President Truman famously - and quite forcefully and progressively for the time in the late 1940s - noted that "if the United States were to offer the peoples of the world a choice of freedom or enslavement it must correct the remaining imperfections in our practice of democracy." Beginning in the early 1950s states in both the north and the south established fair employment commissions, passed laws banning discrimination, and minority voter registrations began to rise throughout the country. In 1954, the Supreme Court case of Brown v. Board of Education paved the way for desegregation in all public schools. In the mid 1960s, President Johnson not only disliked injustice, he understood the international repercussions that came along with America’s perceived hypocrisy. In turn, he helped to pass The Civil Rights Act of 1964 that banned all forms of discrimination in public and a majority of private accommodations.
