1) “The company’s work is done in the darkness and gloom, not on the lit water.”

Explanation: In the above quote, darkness is defining the happenings in a company's platform. It gives us a picture of the darkness that is present in a rule of emperoer and the risk it consists of.

2) “Man, we just love sunsets. Everything is bathed in heavenly white light.....Oh, wait. Except the western horizon.”

EXplanation: From this example , darkness though is not representing the rule of emperor but it shows the low level of moral values that are present in the place termed as “western horizon”. In the passage it has been shown that ruling is not meant to be only about, intense and selfish desire for wealth and power, rather it is a far broad phenomenon which is termed as “heavenly white light.”

3) “And this also,” said Marlow suddenly, “has been one of the dark places of the earth.”

Explanation: This part of writing depicts the "darkness" found in Congo. The punctuated quote tells us the differences and resemblances of the real idea of the

simply spotless mechanisms occuring in a civilized nation and that of the rule of emperor.

Do you speak English covert into indirect speech
LuckyWell [14K]
He asked, do I speak English?
Explanation:
There are two types of speech in English grammar i.e. direct and indirect.
Indirect speech is the type of reported speech in which the main message of the speaker is conveyed without keeping the original order.
Direct speech is also known as quoted speech as that reports the words uttered in the original form.
In an indirect speech the words are not written in the order they were uttered by the original speaker.
Unlike indirect speech, direct speech is written with inverted commas.
The original speaker is mentioned in the sentence to report whose words are being written.
