A nurse needs to mix some alcohol solutions, given as a percent by weight of alcohol in water. Thus in a 3% solution, 3% of the

weight would be alcohol. She mixes x grams of 3% solution, y grams of 10% solution, and 10 grams of pure water to get a total of 140 grams of a solution which is 8% alcohol:
The total grams equations is: x+y+10=140
The total grams of alcohol equation is: .03x+.1y=11.2
11.2= 140*.08

The question asks:
How many grams of each solution are
needed?

Varvara68 [4.7K]

Answer:

see below

Step-by-step explanation:

The total number of trees is

567+324+156+89+678 =1814

Percent fir = 567/1814 = .312568908=31.26 %

Percent pine = 324/1814 = .178610805=17.86%

Percent larch = 156/1814 =.085997795=8.60%

percent cedar = 89/1814 =.049062845=4.91%

Percent hemlock = 678/1814 = .373759647=37.38%

The total should be 100 %

31.26+17.86+8.60+4.91+37.38=100.01  ( rounding error because we rounded to the hundredths place)

Answer:

1) x ≤ 2 or x ≥ 5

2) -6 < x < 2

Step-by-step explanation:

1) We have x^2 - 7x + 10, so let's factor this as if this were a regular equation:

x^2 - 7x + 10 = (x - 2)(x - 5)

So, we now have (x - 2)(x - 5) ≥ 0

Let's imagine this as a graph (see attachment). Notice that the only place that is above the number line is considered greater than 0, and that's when x ≤ 2 or x ≥ 5 (the shaded region).

2) Again, we have x^2 + 4x - 12, so factor this as if this were a regular equation:

x^2 + 4x - 12 = (x + 6)(x - 2)

So now we have (x + 6)(x - 2) < 0

Now imagine this as a graph again (see second attachment). Notice that the only place that is below 0 (< 0) is when -6 < x < 2 (the shaded region).

Hope this helps!

PLEASE HELP!!!
ki77a [65]
Part A:
I have attached the graph of this system of inequalities.

Part B:
Plug in (8,10) into both equations

10 > 3(8) + 10
10 > 24 + 10
10 > 34

This is false!

10 < (-3/4)(8) - 1
10 < (-3)(2) - 1
10 < -6 - 1
10 < -7

This is also false!

So, (8,10) is not included in the solution area for the system.
