The type of values that are being described are known as Terminal values. These are all the different things that individuals want to have in their lives that provide them the type of life that they want to be living. Some of these values include freedom and equality, two huge aspects that drastically increase an individual's quality of life and are genuine good and needed goals.
The council members of the Jewish council would not want to enter Pilate's judgment hall because they could not think of a specific charge. They also would not want to defile and unable to eat on the pass over.
