Answer:

John Jacob Astor's motivation in establishing Fort Astoria was mainly strategical, as the fort represented American presence in the Oregon Territory, disputed between the United States and Great Britain.

Explanation:

Fort Astoria was the name of Pacific Fur Company's main fur trading post in northwestern America and the first American settlement in the Pacific coast. After a short period of possession by the United States, the British occupied it and operated it for 33 years. It was the first British post on the Pacific coast. Fort Astoria control was an important factor in the issue of sovereignty and territorial disputes between the British and the United States over the Oregon Country.

Choose... believed that salvation is achieved through faith alone; Choose... believed that God predetermines who will be saved.
Free_Kalibri [48]

Answer:

Lutherans believed that salvation is achieved through faith alone.

Calvinists believed that God predetermines who will be saved.

Explanation:

Lutherans are a Christian sect that based their belief systems on the teachings of Martin Luther King. They believed in the possibility of salvation through faith and God's grace alone. They also believed in the Holy Trinity and that salvation is attainable by all if we follow in God's footsteps and decrees.

On the other hand, Calvinists believed that God predetermines who is to be saved and so there is not much that man can do. Predeterminism is the focus of Calvinist followers, based on the teachings of John Calvin. They also believed that with this predeterminism, those condemned by God have no chance of being saved even if they were to live in humility and follow God's laws.

How is global culture and heritage preservation a global issue?
g100num [7]

Answer:

Spend time with other members of the community. The best way to preserve your culture is to keep it alive. Gather as a group not just for holidays, but for ordinary meals, events, or just conversation. Many aspects of culture are difficult to learn in books and museums, including etiquette, body language, and humor.

Why did many Europeans move to the great plains?
slavikrds [6]
Settling the Great Plains In the early 1800s, few people lived on the Great Plains. The Great Plains are in the middle of the United States. People did not think the land was good for farming. It was very dry and flat. In 1862, the Homestead Act was passed. The government helped people to settle on the Great Plains. The government sold adults 160 acres of land for a small amount of money. If they could farm the land for five years, they could own it. A settler’s home and land was called a homestead. Many homesteaders came from the eastern United States, where farmland cost a lot. In the Great Plains, land was cheaper. Settlers also came from Europe, where there was not much land to buy. There was a lot of land to buy in the Great Plains. African Americans also wanted to start farms. Many African Americans were poor. They faced prejudice and violence after the Civil War. They started their own towns in Kansas. African American settlers were called Exodusters, after a book in the Bible that tells the story of how people escaped slavery. Settlers Face Hardships Settlers had to learn how to farm on the Great Plains. The soil was held together by grass roots. It was called sod. Settlers were called sodbusters because they had to break through the sod to plant crops. There was not a lot of wood, so settlers used sod to build homes. Winters were long and cold. Summers were hot and dry. There were many droughts. There were grass fires because it was so dry. Farmers had to grow crops that did not need much water. They carried water from streams. Some farmers used windmills to pump water from underground. In the 1870s, millions of grasshoppers ate the crops. There weren’t many people in the area to do farm work, so farmers used new and better farm machines. New machines made it faster and easier to grow more crops.

how did the principles of the American Revolution influence the debate over American imperialism in the Philippines?
Vitek1552 [10]
America fought the revolution to break free from imperial rule under Britain, so it wouldn't be right (It would be completely hypocritical) if America were to convert to be an imperial rule over someone else, being the Philippines.
