Outraged colonists protested the new taxes. The British lessened other duties to balance the taxes.

The Constitution fixed the problems of the Articles of
Confederation by the following. Article I of the Constitution, Congress
can regulate interstate commerce. It is also responsible for coinage and
only Congress can regulate tariffs; in the early days of the national government,
it was largely funded through land sales, excise taxes, and tariffs.
Article II gave the national government a chief executive whose job it
was to execute the laws. He had veto power over Congress, but Congress
could override his veto or even vote to impeach him in extreme cases.
<span>Although African Americans received their freedom as a result of the civil war, it didn't guarantee them all the rights that should have come with freedom. A study of the Civil Rights Movement that started during the Reconstruction Period following the war, and that continues today shows that many factors hindered blacks from exercising all of their rights. Many rights were still denied to blacks, such as the right to vote, and they were denied access by state and cities laws and ordinances to many freedom that most people take for granted.</span>
Slavery was a key issue in the admission of states into the union. states had to be admitted in pairs, free states and slave states, in order to maintain balance in the union. It was agreed that offsetting the balance would escalate the tension regarding slaverly and tear apart the union.
