Explanation: Well, before they had iron they used bronze. Bronze is harder and heavier than iron. So when they would try to forge it it would take an extended amount of time. The use of iron weapons, which remained unique to the Hittites, helped create successful military campaigns. Since iron was much easier to use it soon became the main material for forging.
