Define superordinate goals and explain how they help in increasing cooperation when there is conflict among individuals. Give on

e example of a superordinate goal
A superordinate goal is one that is common to two or more groups and requires the cooperation of each group to accomplish. It can help in increasing cooperation among individuals because sharing a common goal often provides a core focus for the groups, generally taking focus off apparent differences. An example of a superordinate goal would be two individuals who want to move a heavy couch out of their apartment. Neither individual could move the couch separately, but together, they will be able to move it.

Answer:

A superordinate goals can be described as as important tasks that make certain individuals to forget their differences if any and work together to accomplish that important task. It is a task that cannot be done privately and helps to increase the cooperation among individuals who otherwise had differences. The superordinate tasks hence help people to forget their differences and work together.

For example, Two individuals of a family who previously had differences among themselves have to work together to lift up and move a heavy table.
