The 3/5 compromise gave the south limmited power based on population. it gave them only a small amount more say in the house of represenitives. because they had many slaves, instead of giving the one person for every slave, it gave them only 3/5 of a person. so instead of 500 people added to the population of that sate, they only got 300.
