To most people, when someone gets out of the water their hair is all over the place and they look tired and with wrinkly clothes. To the narrator Lydia was different, they describe her as being one with the ocean. To the narrator this bond with the ocean makes gives her a type of elegance when she is close to it and/or comes out of the water.
At first glance, the passage seems like an appeal to ethos because of the name dropping. However, if one looks at the question that follows the statement, you can clearly see that it is an appeal to logos. As it persuades the audience to use their logic to come up with the answer to the question.
