Jacks Agueros's “'Agua Viva,' A Sculpture by Alfred Gonzalez" tells the story of Filthy Fredo, a hermit that collects scrap iron to build creations in his workshop. Filthy Fredo, is mentally unstable, hasn't shave or take a bath in five years, and the only human interaction that he had during the story is with some neighborhood boys which resulted to be violent at first glance. The author uses iron as a metaphor to Fredo's obsessive world, which is impenetrable as the iron creations that he builds for defense against the real world. One excerpt of the story that implies this conclusion is "His house had become the lair of the iron woodchuck, the hive of the iron bee, the storeroom of the iron squirrel, the complex of chambers of the iron ant". The iron served as the metaphoric armor of Fredo, and the only thing he enjoyed to do as a hermit. However, he eventually had to deal with the consequences of the life he decided to live and his inevitable return to society.

Answer:

Explanation:

In the story "Agua Viva" iron is the only thing that Alfred really has. It is very important to him, because he has nothing and no one else in his life that he cares for. He collects scraps of iron and keeps them all over his home and he later uses the scraps to make "art". His emotional problems caused him to retreat into a safe world of his own creation(s) consisting of "iron and steel" instead of human relationship. The author uses iron as a metaphor to Fredo's obsessive behaviors. He uses iron as a defence against the real world. "His house had become the lair of the iron woodchuck, the hive of the iron bee, the storeroom of the iron squirrel, the complex of chambers of the iron ant". These lines from the story show how iron is like a type or armor for Fredo that he buries himself in.

What do you think the most persuasive argument in the editorial about students texting at school is and why?
Lady_Fox [76]

Answer:

Explanation:

This would depend on which side you are on, so if you are on the side allowing students to text at school, you can say it opens resources for students as well as a source of communication. However, personally I think that the argument that students shouldn't text would be easier because it has more evidence. You can say students can cheat, they can get distracted which will lead to bad grades etc
