Both terms describe a way of recounting something that may have been said – but there is a subtle difference between them.

Direct speech describes when something is being repeated exactly as it was – usually in between a pair of inverted commas. For example:

She told me, “I’ll come home by 10pm.”

Indirect speech will still share the same information – but instead of expressing someone’s comments or speech by directly repeating them, it involves reporting or describing what was said. An obvious difference is that with indirect speech, you won’t use inverted commas. For example:

She said to me that she would come home by 10pm.

Direct speech can be used in virtually every tense in English.
Indirect speech is used to report what someone may have said, and so it is always used in the past tense. Instead of using inverted commas, we can show that someone’s speech is being described by using the word “that” to introduce the statement first.

In a collision, a 50.0 kg mass moving at 10.0 m/s transfers all of its momentum to a 25.0 kg mass. What is the velocity of the 2
svetoff [14.1K]

Answer:

Velocity B = 20 m/s

Explanation:

Let the mass and velocity of the first object be A.

Let the mass and velocity of the second object be B.

Given the following data;

Mass A = 50 kg

Velocity A = 10 m/s

Mass B = 25 kg

To find the velocity of mass B;

First of all, we would determine the momentum of mass A;

Mathematically, momentum is given by the formula;

Momentum = mass * velocity

Substituting into the formula, we have;

Momentum A = 50 * 10

Momentum A = 500 Kgm/s

As a result of the collision, momentum of mass A is equal to the momentum of mass B.

Momentum A = Momentum B

500 = mass B * velocity B

500 = 25 * velocity B

Velocity B = 500/25

Velocity B = 20 m/s

Therefore, the velocity of the 25.0 kilogram mass after the collision is 20 meters per seconds.
