The Powhatan Chiefdom affected the development in early Virginia, especially Jamestown, by developing relations with English settlers.

Further Explanation:

English settlers came and established the first permanent English colony in North America in 1607. This settlement, known as Jamestown, was initially unsuccessful because of the inability of the English to adopt to their surroundings. This is when the English developed a relationship with the Powhatan Confederacy.

This group of indigenous people trade with the English, supplying them with necessary materials (like food). In return, the English would give the Powhatan resources like guns. Ultimately, this relationship would turn sour as English settlers continued to invade on Powhatan land. This would result in violent conflicts between the Powhatan and English for decades.

Since George Washington’s Farewell Address in 1796, the United States had followed a foreign policy of non-interventionism. This policy ended with the United States entrance into World War I in 1917. The Presidency of Woodrow Wilson seemed to continue this non-interventionist policy when he declared a policy of neutrality to the nation in 1914 and then ran on and won election in 1916 on the slogan “He Kept Us Out of War.”
