Proctor is a tormented individual that throughout the entire play he is filled with guilt and shame over his affair with Abigail. He is unable to forgive himself for it and only in the end of the play when he confesses to save Elizabeth does she forgive him and he forgives himself.

Pavel [41]
This is what Hawthorne thinks about the governors' ability to govern, and whether he seems to find fault with them or not:

Advise a friend who respond to conflict by avoidance on why it is not healthy in sustaining positive relationship
ryzh [129]
Avoidance is not a good strategy of responding to conflict in a relationship: it will have the effect of weakening the relationship (if you keep on avoiding the person, your relationship might dissapear) and it will also potentially not solve the problems.

Avoidance might work in case of a conflict with a person with whom one does not have much in common, but not in a case of a relationship.
