We know that the longest side of the triangle cannot be longer or equal to the legnth of the sum of the other two sides ( becasue if it was equal, then you would get a straight line)

so if you assume that 12 is longest side then the other sides could be 6

if you assume that the longest side is the third side then the longest side could be 18

Use the distributive property. a(b+c)= ab+ac
