Korematsu v. the US was a court case where Korematsu sued the US for the detainment of him and the Japanese during World War II.
In the court decision, the Supreme Court decided that Korematsu was legally detained because it was a time of war. The executive order to detain and move the Japanese was upheld as constitutional because of the war powers clause. In a time of war, citizens are required to give up rights and that had been established in earlier wars as well. This was the sacrifice the Japanese had to give to protect the safety of the country.
