Use this article excerpt to answer questions 9-10.
Studentka2010 [4]

Answer: D. to inform readers about Blair's apology

Explanation:

The article excerpt provides information about Blair's apology in an unbiased way, meaning that it doesn´t intend to convince the reader of whether an apology was in order or not.

Option A is incorrect because the idea that British diplomats had allegedly been working non-stop is how Blair, and not the article, intends to persuade people not to blame them. Option B is incorrect because the article doesn´t ask or even hint for people to help British survivors. Option C is incorrect because the article is not meant to explain why Britons were deserted, but to inform how Blair considers they were not deserted at all.

What is the term for words from different languages that look similar and mean the same thing?
gizmo_the_mogwai [7]
Cognates are words from different languages that look similar and mean the same thing. These words are usually derived from and share the same etymological origin, which is an advantage if you're looking forward to learning a new language. For example, several words in other languages such as French and Spanish have similar appearances and meanings in English, with a few even having the same spelling.

Screech! When a driver pushes on the brake pedal, it initiates a process that causes the vehicle to
zubka84 [21]

This question is incomplete, here´s the complete question.

Screech! When a driver pushes on the brake pedal, it initiates a process that causes the vehicle to  stop in motion. We literally trust braking systems with our lives every time we get into a vehicle or

cross at a busy intersection. How does this life-critical process work? It begins when the pedal is  pushed. At this moment brake fluid is reljased into the braking mechanisms. As the fluid collects,  this creates a leverage, which causes a friction to be applied. This friction will create a force that  will cause the wheels to stop and allow you to reach your destination safely. Beep! Beep!

What is the main/central idea of the passage?

How a braking system functions on an automobile

Trusting automotive braking systems

Brake fluid being released in the area where the breaking mechanisms are

There is no main/central idea

Answer: How a braking system functions on an automobile

Explanation:

This passage´s main idea is not meant to focus on brake fluids or the trustworthiness of braking systems.

The main idea is how braking systems work as a whole. To do so, the passage describes the process that ensues since pushing on the brake pedal and until the vehicle stops, including the brake fluid being released, creating leverage and friction that make the wheels stop.
