1. Identify the exposition of the story
How the Rhinoceros got his wrinkly skin
vodomira [7]

Answer: The exposition of the story is presented in the lines; "There was once a Parsee living on an uninhabited island in the Red Sea, with a shiny hat, a knife, and a cooking-stove."

Explanation: A narrative exposition is the introduction of a character's background, the environment, or past events that preceded the story. In this tale, the exposition of the story is at the beginning. You learn that a Parsee was living in an uninhabited island and that he had a knife and a cooking stove. This is important later on in the story, since that man bakes cakes, and puts crumbs from previous ones on the Rhino's skin, to then make him rub everywhere and have wrinkles on it.

Read the stanza below from the poem “Birmingham Sunday” by Richard Fariña and complete the instruction that follows.
jasenka [17]
The stanza is an example of extended metaphor. It is interesting that the lines are unchanged from the original song from which the melody for “Birmingham Sunday” is taken. In this metaphor, the “men in the forest” seemed awfully concerned about the “black berries.” At the same time, the speaker, “with a tear” in his or her eye, asks about the “dark ships.” Although this stanza can be taken many different ways, I think it is a metaphor for the fear that people feel for things they do not understand. The men in the forest are scared of things they don’t know from the Blue Sea, while the speaker (who seems to be from the Blue Sea based on the question posed) is fearful of the dark ships in the forest. In this way, the extended metaphor is speaking about the fear that races have of each other and the meaninglessness of that fear. Just as the “black berries” or “dark ships” mean nothing to us, race shouldn’t mean anything when evaluating the worth of a person.

Answer:

Weather predictions are not just simple guesses based on no evidence. Weather predictions are estimates of the future condition that a specific area of the atmosphere will be based on prior recordings of variables such as the temperature, the season, the amount of wind in a specific area, etc.
