The immediate outcome of the fall of the Soviet Union was the increase of the United States influence as a major global power.

During the Cold War, the US and the Soviet Union were on different economic spectrums. While the US defended capitalism, free economy and democracy, the Soviet Union defended Communism and a strongly influenced economy.

It also led to the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989 which was a major symbol of the ruin of the Soviet Union.
