Je Tsongkhapa (1357–1419 CE) founded Yellow Hats, which is the newest of the schools of Tibetan Buddhism. Je Tsongkhapa during his live times greatly admired kadampa teachings. He was also an enthusiastic promoter of Mahayana principle of compassion which kadam school emphasis was laid on. The yellow Hats sect is also known as The Gelug, Gelug-pa, dGe Lugs Pa, dge-lugs-pa or Dgelugspa. The most prominent figure is Daiai lama.

Ngawang Lobsang Gyatso is the 5th daiai lama, he acted as a political and spiritual leader and is seen as the greatest among the daiai lamas. Tibetan sect originated from Mahayana School of Buddhism and it also the most influential form of buddhism in korea, china and japan.

At a time, when other sects were seen as corrupt, the yellow hats came to existence in the 15th century and were regarded as a purer form of Buddhism and by 17th century, yellow hats became the dominant sects.

Yellow hats sect became widely known when Mongols decided to support them in the 16th century. The central plateau was controlled by the yellow hats and this control was maintained until 19th century when British and Chinese attack Tibet.

All the monks were killed except the three Mar Shakya, Tsang Rabsel and Yo Gejung. They all escaped and moved to western Tibet seeking asylum in Kashgar. They continue teaching a Tibetan culture to the easter in Dunhuang, Gansu. Some sources found that they have been part of Tsongka kingdom. Then three moved to the Tibetan province of Kham where they stayed. There one local herdsman wanted to become a monk. They gave him novice but not all the monk's vows. Then they founded two Chinese monks Ki-bang and Gyi-ban which completed their count of five. In this way,Tsang Rabsel former herdsman received full monk’s vows.
