At the doctor’s office, the doctor drains the abscess and takes a sample for culturing. She also prescribes some broad-spectrum

antibiotics to treat the obvious infection. A couple days later, the doctor tells Sam that his wound contained a number of bacteria including Pasteurella multocida. When the dog bit Sam’s arm P. multocida entered the wound and started to establish an infection. In order to do so, the bacteria have to grow, which requires energy. One of the most common energy sources used by bacteria is glucose. Why is glucose such a good source of energy for bacteria?
a) glucose is highly reduced compound, containing many carbon-hydrogen bonds and a lot of potential energyb) glucose contains six carbon atoms, which can be quickly incorporated into organic cellular constituents needed for growthc) glucose is a highly oxidized compound, containing many carbon-hydrogen bonds and a lot of potential energyd) glucose contains six oxygen atoms, which can be used for oxidative phosphorylation and the generation of many ATP molecules

Answer:

The correct answer is option a) "glucose is highly reduced compound, containing many carbon-hydrogen bonds and a lot of potential energy".

Explanation:

Glucose is the preferred source of energy for many microorganisms, including most bacteria. The reason behind this adaptation is that glucose is a highly reduced compound, containing many carbon-hydrogen bonds and a lot of potential energy. Reduction of glucose is achieved through different metabolic pathways using enzymes as aldehyde reductase, and its carbon-hydrogen bonds breakdown releases a lot of potential energy. These two properties makes glucose a good source of energy for the cells.

A liver cell requires energy to move vitamins from an area of low concentration, across the cell membrane,to an area of high conc
Novosadov [1.4K]

Answer:

Active Transport

Explanation:

Active transport is the process of transport of substances from region of their lower to that of higher concentration. Since the transport occurs against the concentration gradient, it is energy requiring process and needs input of energy to occur.

In given example, liver cells transports vitamins against the concentration gradient in energy dependent manner. Therefore, it is an example of "active transport".

What effect would an isertion or deltion mutation on pancreatic amylase have?
rosijanka [135]
It depends on the placing of the mutation. If the mutation is in a coding area then it may effect function of the amylase by preventing proper folding of the protein or the formation of bonds that hold the protein together, for example a mutation in a cysteine residue may inhibit the formation of a disulphides bond.

Do you think the methods shown in these images guarentee successful production of offspring?
Fittoniya [83]

Answer:

No. The bee may travel to a different species of plant, so the pollen may not fertilize another flower. The wind can blow the dandelion seeds into an area where they can’t sprout. The squirrel might come back for the seeds it buried in the ground.

Dr. smith has just been appointed chief of staff at a large hospital located near an area of town where many minorities live. dr
Trava [24]
In such a situation it would be best if Dr. Smith:

<span>''hire trained therapists who are from the same minority group''

This would have a wide ranging impact on the minority communities in the area.

Their participation would increase rapidly as their own community members would get the word out on the services provided and they might feel more comfortable in such an environment.

Since, mental health still has a stigma attached to it, especially in immigrant communities, this strategy would help to increase the level of mental health services provided to minority groups.
