The first two of the questions in (2) refer to some nonspecific time in the past; question (2c) asks more directly for the time - the event time - when the event mentioned (the building of the structure) took place. Question (1) about when the respondent first experienced back pain lasting a week or more is also an example of this type. The answers to such questions are largely independent of the interview time (so long as the target event preseded the interview). They require respondents to search their memory for information about individual events of the specified type and to compose their answers on the basis of this infomation.
