I really don't get how a person could say that to someone because what they said could really happen and it would be there fault without them even knowing it. People really need to consider what they say to people before someone gets hurt. Please just ignore those rude comments and keep your head up.

All this is making Ponyboy "lose" his "goldness", yet there is so much that Ponyboy is doing that keeps him gold, such as watching sunsets. Ponyboy has a childlike view of the world, and when Johnny tells him to "stay gold", he wants Ponyboy to stay this way and to never let go of these young, innocent things.
