Answer:

You have to eliminate one of the variables when the equations are added.

A) x + 2y + z = 10

B) 2x -y +3z = -5

C) 2x -3y -5z = 27

We mulutiply A) by 2 then add it to B and C

A) 2x + 4y + 2z = 20 and the sum =

6x = 42  Luckily, the "y" and "z" variables cancel out and we find:

x = 7

Then we use x =7 in calcucating equation A) and B)

A) 2y + z = 3

B) -y + 3z = -19

THEN solve for y and z by eliminating variables.

Solve the following system algerbraically: y=-3(x-2) squared+4 y=-6x+16
pishuonlain [190]

y =  - 3(x - 2) ^{2}  + 4
y =  - 6x + 16
distribute the -3 and the square into the first equation
y =  - 3x ^{2}  + 12x - 8
y =  - 6x + 16
multiply the second equation by 2
y =  - 3x ^{2}  + 12x - 8
y =  - 12x + 32
add the equations together
y =  - 3x ^{2}  + 24
factor out -3
y =  - 3(x ^{2}  - 8)
factor inside parenthesis
y =  - 3(x +  \sqrt{8} )( x -  \sqrt{8})
refine
y =  - 3(x + 2 \sqrt{2} )(x - 2  \sqrt{2} )

JulijaS [17]

Answer:

So, when we solve for x we see that we can make 16 cookies using 1 cup of sugar. Then, yes, as you suggested we could divide 30 cookies by this ratio to see that we need less than 2 cups of sugar to make 30 cookies: And, as you said, this value is less than 2 cups, the value under Quantity B. Good job! I hope this helps :)
