Charlemagne, As an emperor, Charlemagne, had build sanctuaries where monks could copy down ancient writings like the bible since they were the only ones who could read and write. Charlemagne took the time to have Monks teach him to read so he could spread the Gospel. Finally, Charlemagne enforced learning and built school so that the children of his empire could learn to read the bible.
