We know length = x.

Width = 3/4x.

We're trying to find the smaller rectangles, and since it's cut in half the width and length would be half smaller.

Length of smaller rectangle:

1/2x

Width of smaller rectangle:

6/4x

1/2x + 6/4x? May be wrong..

2. I think Rico's reasoning is correct, because say you put 1 as the width of the small rectangle, and 3 as the length, of the small rectangle. Each perimeter of the small rectangle is 8. And since there are 4 small rectangles:

8 * 4 = 32.

And if you use the large rectangle. The normal width would be 2 (because the small one is 1) and the normal length would be 6 (because the small one is 3). So perimeter = 6 + 6 + 2 + 2 = 16.
