When looking at “The Bird” in chapter 23, the text states, “But he was rejected, he would be only a corporal. By all accounts, t

his was the moment that detailed him, leaving him feeling disgraced, infuriated and bitterly jealous of officers” (234). How does this explain his behavior towards Louie?
The Bird wants to demonstrate his power to Louie and the other POWs.
The Bird admired Louie’s reputation and wants to befriend him.
The Bird only reacts to Louie when Louie is disrespectful, and when he is, the Bird beats him.
The Bird obviously has some deep rooted insecurities that he took out on Louie.

Why was Voltaire's novel Candide banned in both Europe and the unites States
Anna007 [38]
Voltaire's novel Candide was banned in both Europe and the United States because it opposed the government and the Catholic Church equally. It poked fun at hypocrisy in religion and made fun of the monarchy like ways France and other countries were run. Europe and specifically France was more upset at the way Candide portrayed the government and the Church, while the United States did not like the way it portrayed the Church. However, Candide was still an extremely popular book when it was banned.
