McCarthyism is the practice of making accusations of subversion or treason without proper regard for evidence. The term refers to U.S. senator Joseph McCarthy and has its origins in the period in the United States known as the Second Red Scare, lasting from the late 1940s through the 1950s

  • This term was based off of Senator McCarthy, but it first began during the red scare. Which lasted through 1940 through the 50's during the cold war. But McCarthy was the chairman of the Senate's subcommittee of investigations. Which interrogated anyway accused of being affiliated with communism or suspected of un-american activities. But why it made such an impact was because hundreds if not thousands of americans lost their jobs being accused of communism.
