The intrusion of magma along a bedding* plane is called a Batholith. The reason it would be Batholith is because it comes from a Greek Root word that stands for "<u>depth"</u>.  Which would stand for what happens down their in the earth which would be "Batho-lith".

Pieces and full petrified logs in a barren area with mountains in the background.
elena-14-01-66 [18.8K]

The area was once a forest.

The area was uplifted.

The area was buried in sediment.

The area was probably covered by water.

Petrification of a dead plant or animal organisms occurs when rock mineral displaces the organic elements in the structure of the biotic matter or these minerals seep in between the spaces and pores within the dead plant or organism and become part of the material.

Explanation:

Petrification occurs under high pressure. This is why this process occurs in the crust after layers of sediments create enough pressure on the dead organic matter buried in with the sediments. This phenomenon commonly begins on the ocean floor where dead marine life sinks to the bottom and is buried by sediments over many years.

Occasionally, tectonic plate forces uplift these petrified fossils from deep in the crust exposing them on the surface like in this case.

Describe the process scientists else when they study fossils
klemol [59]

Usually to begin they use the process of relative dating, then chemical dating. Then look at where the environment that we found the fossil to determine if it has always been that environment.  When fossil is found in marine life in a country town suggesting that the environment was previously a marine environment.  Study the rocks that they found the fossils to help determine a relative age. This came before that, but after them to give us an approximate age. Then study the fossil itself to classify it into groups to determine which branch of evolution it has come from. Fossils can be found in rocks, bedding planes, (rock layers), trees (tree ring dating). Mostly there are found in rocks or weathered rocks (sands, mud).
