Moreover, unlike forms of free verse, <u>ballads have a definite structure</u>. They are generally made up of four to six stanzas and rhymed verses with 14 syllables each. This form of narrative poetry was popular mostly in England during the 17th and 18th centuries. Originally, ballads were composed to be sung and/or to accompany dance.
